Sunday at the farm

freshly mowed lawn in front countryside trailer
Out on the farm before noon today.
Dad checking out the dry lake bed.
Spending a relaxing time out on the farm with Dad.

Dried up creek bed.
It's been a really dry summer here in the Mississippi Delta.

Sunday Football
Caught the last half of the Washington Redskins upsetting the New Orleans Saints (who won all of their home games last year). RG2 looked really good in his rookie debut and it was the first time the Redskins scored over 40 points in a game in years.

Watched the final few holes of the BWM Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club on tv after the Redskin - Saints game.

Peyton Manning is back in the QB role after being out all last year from back surgery and a move to a new team. He and the rest of the Broncos face a powerful Pittsburgh Steeler team!

Cloudy Saturday

 local weather forecast
Well, we finally got some relief from all the HOT weather that we've been getting here in the Delta, this will be great for the Saturday college football games as well as all the fishing, golfing, hunting and other outdoors activities too!

Dove Hunting
A cool Saturday afternoon out on the farm, barely any doves flying around but it was still relaxing to spend a couple hours hunting while Dad was fishing. As usual, he caught fish and I blasted the air around the few doves that I happen to see. Still, it was a fun day.

Friday at last

Getting Cabin Fever!
After barely going out from the house all week due to the extreme heat here in the Delta, I was happy to make a quick run out to the farm this morning to get in alittle bit of hunting before the afternoon heat began ... it lasted about 10 minutes. Dad called me before I got geared up to come back to town to give him a ride to the dentist office (the battery in the other car died).

The local Walmart
After dropping Dad off at the dentist, went to a couple stores to shop for golf and hunting supplies. Got some golf balls, a club brush, a hunting stool, and some groceries items before getting Dad's call to pick him up. After lunch and a short nap, Dad and I went out to the farm later this afternoon.

The Mourning Dove
The most sought after birdie in the state this month!
Watching the horizon for the elusive birds!

All geared up for bird hunting!

Using my bro's dove decoys for the first time!
Hardly anything was flying this afternoon! Saw a few doves flying away from a distances and took a shot at one without any real chance of hitting it. Oh well, atleast Dad caught a nice bass for dinner tonight!

Labor Day = Dove Hunting

All dressed up for Dove Hunting ... whew it was hot wearing long pants and sleeves!

Saw and shot at a bunch of doves today but they were too fast and too far away!
Oh, well it's all for fun; isn't it?!

Relaxing Sunday

Downtown G'wood
Got up a little earlier this morning. Went by the family business, picked up the Sunday newspaper and took a few photos around town.

The Local Walmart
Spent an hour or so browsing the store aisles picking up snacks / groceries, hunting clothes, fishing lures, and a carton of ...
"Moon Pies" (actually, these are 110 calorie mini ones)!
File photo: website modeling hunting clothes
On my way out, I caught sight of two blond ladies in the Walmart parking lot all dressed in hunting camos and had to do double take. Then I remembered, yeah right this is da South and women do hunt here (and of course it's opening weekend for Dove Season).

Pastor Kevin preaching to me over Skype.
During lunchtime, my technically gifted friend back in LA setup a Skype video feed for me to watch service back at my church in Orange County! How cool is that!

Dove Hunting part II
Went out to the farm with Dad. He went fishing and I went hunting, neither one of us did well today. I saw about nine plus doves but most were too far or too close to the power lines (didn't want to shoot down the lines). Fired one round at a non dove by mistake, and missed a 2nd one that flew too close to another power line, I had to wait until it cleared the line before firing and then forgot I had a 2nd trigger on the double barrel shotgun, doh!

Good thing I picked up a rotisserie chicken this morning at Walmart, otherwise no fish or birds for supper (except for the chicken of course).

Opening Day

Just barely made it on Opening Day of Dove season.
Came out with Dad about 6pm. He went fishing while I waited for any incoming doves to come my way. Meanwhile, I must have sat on an ant hill 'cause I had a whole stream of them on my arm and hands and on my shotgun. After I finally brushed off the painful buggers and had a cold Miller Lite (from my Dad, I'm his only drinking buddy) ... I sat and waited a little bit more, when a dove suddenly flew in along a treetop level to my right. I caught him with one shot. He hit the ground about 10' from me at the edge of a road. My first dove kill in years since I haven't gone on opening day since I moved to California.

A nice clean kill ... all that skeet shooting paid off!
Didn't see anymore doves until one flew by as I was walking to where Dad was fishing but the dove was alittle too far and I was late on identifying it until it was already out of range. Oh, well spent the rest the afternoon / evening Bass fishing until darkness.
Serene pond - no luck in fishing today!
All in all it was a nice day, got some things done at home before coming out to the farm today.
