Friday Scouting

The levee roads got re-leveled today, very dusty!
Farmer harvesting soybeans,
Full moon peeking out this evening.
Went out to the farm this evening to check on the "plumbing" (artesian well line) with Dad. Took the 10/22 Ruger out on a little "scouting" walk in case I saw "Mister Coyote" again but I only saw "Momma Doe" and her baby at the edge of the back treeline. Otherwise, I just got in some good walking / hiking time tonight. Dad went fishing but didn't even get a bite so we both went home empty handed.

Interesting Thursday

Met with doctoral candidate P. Nie for her research project.

Homecoming parade in G'wood
A mutual friend arranged an interview with a Northwestern (Chicago) student who doing research on the Chinese-American social organization in the mid-South (including here in Ms). Funny how being one of the founders and president of a college organization can come back to you after so many years! Also, while we were meeting a big parade with marching bands, and homecoming courts and presenters, etc ... started in downtown this afternoon.
The Alluvian Hotel in G'wood
Looking for a coffee place after the parade, we checked out the Viking Corporation owned Alluvian Hotel down the street and then went over to The Delta Bistro for lemonade and truffles before taking a mini tour of downtown Greenwood. It was a pretty good afternoon today.

Recent outings to the farm

Pulled out the aluminum boat a couple times to pull lures out.
Fishing at Sunset
Sunday's outing - some late afternoon fishing (and even boating for me to pull up some hung up fishing lures from our small pond).
A big Buffalo fish, about 8 lbs or so.
Dad trying out worms (and bought cheap wieners for catfish bait too)
Setting Sun

Monday's outing - caught a big Buffalo fish in the old pond; it was huge! Dad caught a small crappie in the other pond. Saw a ton of wild geese coming down around sunset to roost in a nearby creek.
Dad following up on a problem water line
Shrinking fishing pond.
"Mussel on the half shell"
"Sun beacon"
Wednesday afternoon outing (Sept 26th). Saw some more wildlife tonight, a 3 - 4 deers feeding on a neighboring levee and a fox or coyote running about 50 yards behind me.

Old shed in at the farm.
Brief fishing outing this afternoon with Dad.

Hello Mister Gar-fish!
Caught a medium sized gar in one pond and almost another larger one in another pond.

Hello Mister Bass!
Caught a medium sized Bass in our speed fishing outing.

Sun setting.
Dad and I had to head home to have an earlier dinner with my younger sibling.

Connecting with family across the miles.
My sister in law and kids Skyped in from Bean Town tonight before dinner time.

Happy Birthday Lil' Bro'!
After dinner we had a small birthday celebration for my youngest brother.

Extended Stay

Guess I'll be in Mississippi alittle bit longer, at least thru the holidays.

Midweek fishing

Fishing again
Dad trying a new fishing lure.
small bass
I caught the only fish today (which I tossed back since it was pretty small), otherwise we didn't have much luck this time around.
Wild Geese flying.
We probably saw the same flock of geese from yesterday as they flew around in near darkness to roost.

Tuesday Fishing

Late afternoon outing with Dad.
Fished in our shrunken pond first.

A pair of Gar fishes.

four pound Carp caught

Very murky pond.

A big doe at the end of the pond.

The doe and it's fawn running up the levee.

Flock of wild geese honking overhead at sunset.
Spent a couple hours out on the farm this afternoon with Dad. We wanted to see how much rain we gotten from the recent storms and if the water level has risen much. I caught a couple gars and a large carp in the pond by our trailer. Later while we were fishing nearby at another pond, I saw a big doe and it's fawn at a distance. On my way back to the car, I saw big flock of wild geese overhead. It was a beautiful sight on this nice cool evening.

Sunday afternoon at the farm

It was sunny briefly in otherwise overcast day.
Brought out my ol' .22cal rifle for some target shooting.
Dad test-firing his newly repaired pistol
We spent the rest of the afternoon fishing.
Both Dad and I both caught fishes.
Sunday Night Football on NBC
Back home from fishing in time for dinner and Sunday Night Football (Lions vs 49ers tonight).

Not in Los Angeles - local ad

This week's layaway ad in Ms
the "Sporting Goods" ad page
Who knew Walmart (at least the ones here in Mississippi) advertise "assault rifles" for the coming "hunting season"?! Both very cool and very disturbing at the same time!

G'smithing done!

Repairing Dad's ol' .22 Ruger Mk I
Mission accomplished! Dad filed down the factory extractor plunger, and I replaced the extractor assembly, cleaned out all the gunk built up over the years, and reassembled the entire unit. So far, the extractor seems to work but we gotta take it for live fire. I think earned a few points with my Dad today.

Texas Longhorns vs Ole Miss Rebels
Caught the ESPN broadcast of #14 Texas visiting the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford. It was a late night game (8:15pm kickoff). Kind of hard to watch, the Longhorns ran all over the Rebels at 66 - 31 (but atleast it wasn't a shutout). Kudos to the UT coach for showing some class at the end and not taking a last field goal against the Rebels in closing two minutes. Congrats UT and welcome to the SEC and your first visit to the Oxford Campus.

Free Premium weekend
When I wasn't watching my college football team getting ripped apart by the big bad Texas team, I was catching up on a few movies that I haven't seen yet: "The A-Team", "Planet of the Apes", "The Town", etc ....).
